This week I watched Dr. Richard Mayer's interview and read his articles. I really impressed by his work. Through his research and experiences, there were several points he addressed that could help audiences to understand and learn how to help people to learn. Stay forever curious was the first point he mentioned, which also indicated the importance of the interests. Believe in yourself, remember who you are, don't read your own press releases, and learn how to take criticism were a few things focusing more on how to handle up and downs in the learning journey. They also provided a clear and upright point of view of how to be a constant good learner. Cherish your support from family and recognize you are part of a larger effort taught the audience how to be a supportive learner and learn things not only from books but also from close life.
He also provided two suggestions to help the reader to learn how to be a successful scholar, including the core issues of how to set achievable goals and how to use time efficiently. They were more practical suggestions and they could also be applied to many other fields besides learning and learning professionally.
I particularly agree with what Dr. Mayer mentioned cherish the support from family. Nowadays, everything is getting at a fast pace, people tend to arrange the priority in their lives. They have to choose to have to make choices between work, studying, family, leisure time, etc. Even everyone knows that the family is important, but not everyone really can cherish what the family brings to them.
Hi Sungling,
What you reflected on Dr. Mayer's interview was really inspirational to me. I also agree on the point that to be a constant learner and be curious to new things. It is also what a researcher need to keep during our academic journey. It is hard to keep calm in these days with a rapid life pace. But it is fortunate that we have this learning opportunity to learn in campus life end enjoy the exploratory academic research. Family is always our strong and warm support on our back! I cherish all I have today.
Hi Sungling,
I like these points you pulled up from the interview. They helped me understand your core values.
As an instructional designer, there are numerous judgment calls to make in the process, and for that, I think it really resembles life in general, during which prioritizing and decision making are everywhere.
